Release of the album "The Doors", January 4, 1967

On January 4, 1967 the 1st DOORS album was released, recorded between August 29 and September 23, 1966, less than a month, on a 4-track tape recorder when most groups only used a 3-track.

The 44 min 48 album contains many hits that will make the group famous such as "Break on Through (To the Other Side)", "Light My Fire", famous hit attributed to guitarist Robby Krieger, the cover of Brecht and Weill "Alabama Song" but especially the psychedelic "The End", a piece which will be chosen in 1979 to appear on the soundtrack of the film "Apocalypse Now" by Coppola.

Produced by Paul Rothchild and mixed by sound engineer Bruce Botnick who will continue to work with the DOORS throughout their career, the album quickly reaches 2nd place on the Billboard 200 ranking in the USA where it stays there for 2 weeks. .

The album is considered a central piece of American music today. In 2015, the "Library of Congress" selected "The Doors" to enter the "National Recording Registry", a list of albums that have important historical significance from a cultural and artistic point of view for the country.

​

In 2012, the magazine "Rolling Stone" placed "The Doors" in 42nd place of the "500 best albums of all time"!

 

In France, "The Doors" is certified 3x Platinum Disc with more than 900,000 copies sold...
