Death of Danny Sugerman, January 5, 2005

Danny Sugerman was the DOORS' second manager...

A true enthusiast, Danny started working with the band at the age of 12, responding to fan letters!

In July 1971, after the death of Jim Morrison, when he was only 17 years old, he was chosen by the remaining members of DOORS to take over from Bill Siddons as manager of the group.

Not always appreciated by DOORS fans for his radical decisions and the mercantile aspect that he helped to develop around the group in the company of keyboardist Ray Manzarek (1939-2013), whose idea of relaunching the group with Iggy Pop at the singing,

 

Sugerman nevertheless remains an enthusiast who has fulfilled his childhood dream of working with his favorite band.

He is the author of the famous controversial biography on Jim Morrison: "Nobody will leave here alive", co-written with Jerry Hopkins (1935-2018), released in 1980, strongly contested and criticized by Robby Krieger, the guitarist of the DOORS, in his autobiography "Set the Night on Fire" published in October 2021.

A former heroin addict who found redemption in his conversion to Buddhism, Danny left us on January 5, 2005 after a battle with cancer, he was 50 years old...
